Over one thousand Royal British Legion branches were represented in the procession to the Menin Gate on Wednesday the 8 August in Ypres, in memory of pilgrims who had processed ninety years before them this carefully reconstructed city, which has the iconic Flanders Fields Museum at its heart, became the back drop for something particularly special although the memory of total destruction in the past, is ever present in people’s minds.

The Legion’s Biggest ever membership event marking 90 years since the Great Pilgrimage of 1928. A decade after the end of WW1, veterans and war widows visited the battlefields of the Somme and Ypres before marching to the Menin Gate.
