In Memory of Jennifer Anne Jones
The memorial collection which followed the Celebration of Life for Jennifer Jones raised over £500 for Leukaemia aid.
The service highlighted just how seriously involved Jenny was in so many aspects of village life.Husband John’s eulogy traced events in Jenny’s life and also revealed her passion for living in the countryside. Family and children were very important to Jenny and anyone who knew her will be aware of how much time and care she gave to her parents in their twilight years. Her mother was first to die but her father survived her by one week, living until 102 years!
Her passion for history and tradition was revealed through her choice of music and poetry. As a gifted teacher, Jenny had worked with the team at Hanbury Hall, welcoming school parties to experience tasks such as washing clothes in a dolly tub tobring history alive!Jill Povey, who used to cook at the hall, observed how delighted children were by participating in these sessions.
Hanbury School was also close to Jenny’s heart as was her faith and service to Church and community. As a Hanbury PCC member, a school governor, and as part of the worship group, she held strong views and firmly maintained her focus. She also headed up the Church Flower Guild, encouraging new members and the push to be Eco Friendly by reducing use of floral foam.
Music during the service was ‘Paradise’ by Coldplay and ‘The Habit of Loving You’ by Nino Temple and April Stevens. Hymns were ‘Morning has Broken’ and ‘Come Down, O Love Divine’ and the poem was ‘Village Sounds’ by children’s poet James Reeves.
Jenny, together with husband John, has raised significant funds for church through bank holiday refreshments and services offered to the Countryside Show Committee. Jenny and I also have worked together on the many other creative events which have been put on in church and village over the years. Her insightfulness, good humour and service to the community will be greatly missed.
