BEST SKILLS ON OUR DOORSTEP

Just before last Christmas, an attempted break in left Hanbury PCC with a costly repair to the north aisle opening‘light’ as they say in the trade. It was not a stained-glass window, but the metal frame was badly distorted and several panes of clear glass were broken. Such pointless destructive acts are both infuriating and costly in time and money but having talented craftsmen on our doorstep has been a blessing and has resulted in a replacement which looks even better than its predecessor.

Ben Sinclair of Norgrove Glass Studios at Bentley, Redditch takes on restoration and repair projects for the National Trust, parish churches and also private residences. In this case, the glass to be replaced was clear ‘blown glass’ which creates the sympathetic shimmering appearance which is authentic in the case of ancient buildings. So much more beautiful than perfectly flat modern glass, windows take on a new beauty; take a look from now on, especially when darkness falls! To see more of what Ben has to offer, visit www.norgrovestudio.co.uk.

Tom, is a member of the Barrett family which currently runs their bespoke metal work business from Hanbury’s Pumphouse Lane. The newly constructed window frame slotted into position like a glove! This father James established the business thirty years ago and along with his sons, has produced practical and artistic products. Visit www.artmetal.co.uk, to see their work, including their stunning garden ‘firespheres’.

We are indeed fortunate to have these two skilled craftsmen right on our doorstep, both efficient, creative and in much demand here in rural Worcestershire.
